Kalibari Committee of lower Assam’s Dhubri district has succesfully organized a mass marriage for the fourth consecutive year on Sunday.
A total of 12 pairs tied the nuptial knots at the premises of Dhubri Kalibari Temple in presence of thousands of crowds and invitee guests including Jayanta Malla Barua, chairman of Assam Tourism Development Coorporation (ATDC).
Mass marriage pairs from various communities including Bengali, Rajbonshi and Bihari hailing from Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Bongaigoan districts of lower Assam and few others from Bengal were solemnized.
Jayanta Malla Barua, chairman of ATDC was present as chief guest on the occasion and blessed the new couples and expressed his happiness at the initiative of organizing the mass marriage programme over the last four consecutive years on behalf of the poor families who otherwise could hardly afford the expenditure of social marriage.
Supertendent of police, Dhubri Yuvraj who was present as a special guest also praised the efforts of Kalibari Committee and blessed each of the couple a very happy married life.
Dipankar Mazumdar, convener of Mass Marriage Ceremony and member of Kalibari Committee,Dhubri told Northeast Now that the recent havoc of flood in district has also hits our overall preparation and we were worrying about to organise on schedule time.
But, finally the flood water receded from district just a week ago and we are able to complete our task with the active support of each section of the society and well.
Suresh Harlalka,another active member said that ‘like the previous year,this year too, we have gifted a photograph of Radha Krishna, chandan tree, marriage registration certificate, medical health card, gold ring, steel almirah, double bed, utensils, blanket (double) and one Hawkins pressure cooker to each and every newly married couples.
The event which is organized every year since 2016 to facilitate marriages that are not happening only because of financial constraints of the bride or groom.
The first mass marriage of nine couples was held on June 2016, second on July 2017 with a total of 11 couples while 20 couples tied the nuptials knot in 2018.
