DEMOW: The Assam Science Technology and Environment Council organized a science workshop in Demow Higher Secondary School recently.

In the workshop, Bimal Dutta, Professor in Botany Department in Sivasagar Girls’ College, Dr Dimpal Jyoti Mahanta, Professor in Mathematics Department in Kaziranga University, Dr.Abdul Aziz Ali, a scientist in Jorhat NERIST, Chaya Nath Borah, a Science teacher, along with other dignitaries, were present.

Haflong Hospital gets LaQshya tag

Haflong: Haflong Civil Hospital’s Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatre have been given LaQshya certification. The facility underwent assessment by a two-member of empanelled external assessors from NHM on January 28 and January 29, 2019. Haflong Civil Hospital had taken up LaQshya certification of Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatre. The Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatre of Haflong Civil Hospital scored 93 per cent and 84 per cent respectively.

Timber laden truck seized

Gossaigaon: A 14-wheeler truck bearing registration number NL-01Q/3536 was seized at NH 31 (C) in Gossaigaon of Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. Sources revealed that the truck was coming from Myanmar and going to West Bengal with teak wood when Kachugaon Forest officials, acting on intelligence input, seized the truck from Hukna Para village area under Gossaigaon Police Station. The value of the seized timber is around Rs 14 lakh. The seized truck and timber were taken to the Kachugaon Forest Division for further enquiry.

Ban on plying

Dibrugarh: In view of the rising level of waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, District Magistrate Pallav Gopal Jha imposed a ban on the plying of all kinds of boats on these rivers under Section 144 of the CrPc on Wednesday. The move, which has been taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers on these rivers which are in full spate, has been put into immediate effect and will be in force till further orders. Any person violating the orders will be punished under Section 188 of IPC. So far, 9,875 people and 231 hectares of farm land of nine villages under Chabua Revenue Circle have been flood affected.

Cattle thieves arrested

Boko: Three cattle thieves – Rashidul Ali from Sonapur, Hasen Ali from Chaygaon and Mohidul Islam from Boko were arrested from Guwahati and Sontoli village under Boko Police Station on Wednesday night.

According to the officer in-charge of Boko Police Station, Jogendra Barman they were involved in many theft cases in South Kamrup district. Police recovered a mobile phone from a spot in Jambari village. Police recovered all information from the phone and arrested the cattle thieves. They were forwarded to judicial custody on Thursday.
